THE Isle of Wight's new Lord Lieutenant, Susie Sheldon, performed her first official engagement by opening the first floor extension of the Royal Solent Yacht Club, Yarmouth.

The extension is the culmination of a three-year project with the latest works including the roof, floor, windows and bar area.

Susie, who has taken over as Lord Lieutenant following the retirement of Maj Gen Sir Martin White, was invited to cut the ribbon with club commodore, Tony Walton.

He said: "This evening represents all the work over the last three years which has gone into the first floor extension which is fabulous.

"We have a Club which looks as good as it has done for many years and is a credit to our staff and the generosity of our members."

The club organises a variety of activities both on, and off the water, socially.

New members are welcome and it is hosting an open day on Saturday, May 4.
