An Isle of Wight musician is returning home to play with a quartet at Ventnor Arts Club.

Nina Plapp is an improvisational cellist and composer, who left the Island to study in London.

She has performed with major international pop artists, including Rox, Angie Brown (Fatboy Slim, Bizarre inc.), and Alison David (Red Snapper) and Cantopop star, Alan Tam.

She has just completed a radio documentary for the BBC charting her recent adventure exploring the musical heritage of the gypsy community in Rajasthan.

She is now coming back to the Island with The Hidden Compass Quartet to perform at Ventnor on Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27, at 8pm.

Hidden Compass Quartet was formed in London in 2018 and has a shared interest and belief in improvisation within the classical structure. Their performance programme is a mix of Mendelssohn, Borodin and pieces from around the world.

The other quartet members are equally accomplished. Wai Sin was born in Hong Kong and is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music under Joshua Fisher and has performed as a soloist with the Welsh Symphonia and Wells Virtuosi.

Violist, Anastasia Sofina comes from Moscow. She studied at Tchaikovsky Moscow State and Royal College of Music. She received the annual talent award from the Moscow government five years consecutively. She recently recorded Palette. 20th Century with Pavlik Records in Slovakia and appeared on BBC Radio 3 program In Tune in 2017 and on TV Brava in 2018.

Magdalena Cieslak is a Polish violinist who specialises in historical performance.

Recent seasons have taken her to London's Royal Albert Hall (BBC Proms), Buckingham Palace and Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie and the Wigmore Hall.

She has performed in Arcangelo, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Devon Baroque, Welsh Baroque, Florilegium, and the Swiss ensemble, Le Phénix. She won the Steinitz Prize for solo Bach playing and the following year joined the European Union Baroque Orchestra.
