FIGHTING off police during an arrest landed a man in court.

Daniel Lee, 25, of no fixed abode, admitted a charge of resisting a police officer as he appeared before Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court this morning.

Police were called to a Newport address after reports of a row Lee was having with his sister.

Lee started shouting and swearing at the police officer, PC Robins, who made an attempt to arrest him on suspicion of assaulting his sister, prosecutor Vivian Ducie told the court.

Lee was struggling against PC Robins, who had to put Lee to the ground to avoid being assaulted.

He continued to struggle on the ground and PC Robins was assisted by a member of the public.

For Lee, Keith Verrinder told the court his client had a serious injury to his arm and was resisting because of the pain the handcuff on his arm was causing.

Lee fell from the second floor of a building in 2016 and landed on railings and suffered considerable injuries, including a serious break and skin loss, Mr Verrinder said.

As a result, he has had many operations on his arm and it is still quite tender.

Magistrates fined Lee £126 and he will also have to pay a £30 surcharge and £85 court costs.
