THE second phase of a series of mosaics are now on display on the outside of the refurbished Totland Pier toilets.

The two-year project has been led by Helen Goodman, of The Totland Bay Mosaic Arts Company, who has designed the pictures.

Helen Gibbs, clerk to Totland Parish Council, said: "We put up the first mosaics on the side of the toilets in 2017 but have waited until all of the next five mosaics were complete before displaying them.

"These five mosaics consist of a men's and a ladies sign as well as three pictures depicting Totland landmarks, including The Pier, Hurst Point with the sea wall and The Needles, including coloured sands, The Downs and Headon Warren.

"At the bottom of each is one line of the chorus of the Totland Waltz which was sung every Friday at the former Totland Bay Hotel when visitors were celebrating their last night there before returning home.

"When the project is complete, there will be more panels which have the rest of the chorus on them.

"Our volunteers meet every Tuesday afternoon and, under Helen's expert guidance, have done a fantastic job.

"We have also taken this opportunity to refurbish the toilets inside and have had them painted with new toilet seats being put in for the summer season."
