A CHARITY pub crawl which started 35 years ago has come to the Isle of Wight on its latest journey.

Peter Hill started his marathon in 1984 when Banks's Brewery released a map of 300 pubs.

Since then, he visited thousands of taverns across the UK and, after his Isle of Wight visit, he has now notched up 21,080.

At each venue, the West Bromwich retired-engineer collects a menu, makes a note of the decor, gets a book signed by the landlord, and asks them for £1 for charity.

He then files away the information in what has now become 204 lever arch files, in his home.

Peter, 63, said: "I've done the mainland and now I'm starting on the islands around Britain with my visit to the Isle of Wight.

"Over the next few weeks, I will be visiting Hayling Island and going up to Scotland to the Isle of Mull and smaller islands there."

Peter, who is currently raising money for the air ambulance, visited 35 pubs on the Island.
