AN ESTATE agent was given ten points on his driving licence after crashing his car into a tree.

Sebastian Drewell, 26, of Church Road, Havenstreet, appeared in front of Island magistrates today (April 2).

He admitted driving a Ford Fiesta on Carters Road, Ryde, without due care and attention, on February 10, and failing to stop after hitting a tree.

Ann Smout, prosecuting, said police were contacted by a woman who told them Drewell had been drinking all afternoon before driving off in a car.

Officers found the car abandoned and causing a dangerous obstruction. It had collided head-on with a tree, causing extensive damage to the front end, and the airbags had been deployed.

Officers were unable to locate Drewell but he handed himself in the next day, saying he had panicked and walked home.

Liz Miller, for Drewell, said he insisted he had only had two drinks that day, and had taken a corner too fast. She said as he was an estate agent, he wouldn't be able to work if he had his driving licence taken away.

Magistrates gave Drewell ten points on his licence, and a 12-month community order to include 300 hours of unpaid work.

He was fined £340, and ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 surcharge.
