A PAIR who stole £76 of whiskey from Morrisons in Newport appeared in Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Jason Blake, 32, and Lee-Anne Tiller, 22, of Spanners Close, Chale, admitted the charge of theft, as they appeared before Island magistrates.

For the defendants, Barry Arnett said that Blake was going through a hard time and the incident happened on the anniversary of his father's death.

Mr Arnett said Tiller was also struggling after losing custody of her children.

Both were drinking that day and accept that the theft was a joint enterprise, Mr Arnett said.

Magistrates sentenced the pair to a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered them to pay back the £76 for the whiskey to Morrisons.

They will each also have to pay £85 court costs and a £20 surcharge.
