BUTCH Cassidy and the Sundance Kid stumble into Freshwater Bay looking to rob a local bank only to find their plans cut short by the local community.

The would-be robbers were part of a sell-out Wild, Wild West charity song and dance show at the United Reformed Church, Guyer's Road.

The stars of the lively and humorous musical were Freshwater’s top talent including The Bay Wailers, Freshwater Ukulele Group and local individuals, with Mike Chambers playing Butch and Mark Webber, Sundance.

The story centres on the villains who come into the area hoping to rob the village bank, which unbeknown to them, has closed down.

But they are wrong-footed when the locals welcome the two strangers into their own community.

Eventually, the homely and kind people of Freshwater Bay persuade the two criminals to drop their villainous ways and settle down and raise families in the village.

The script was written by Jo Lutas and Pam Wedgwood.

Jo also produced and directed the show while Pam, a world renowned musician and composer, was the musical director assisted by the talented Richard Bittern.

Many thanks go to Freshwater Bay Residents' Association, for its support as well as Freshwater Bay Women's Institute who provided homemade cakes for the interval.

The event raised £711 which will be split between Freshwater Lifeboat, West Wight Sports and Community Centre and the Alzheimer's Cafe.
