CHILDREN from Barton Primary School came one step closer to securing the £20,000 needed for their new climbing frame.

Students from Y5 headed to Asda for a day of bag-packing to raise the funds and headed home £285 closer to their target.

Clare Jones, community champion at Asda said: "They have done really well so far and have raised more than half already.

"The children loved bag packing and had some great feedback from customers. It was a great way for the children to gain confidence and learn the value of money."

The children have raised the rest of the funds through cake, book and uniform sales, receiving two grants and selling ice lollies and hot chocolate to the rest of the school.
