FREE first aid sessions are being held on the Isle of Wight.

The Saving Lives Campaign, launched in 2018, takes first aid sessions to the wider community — and has three upcoming sessions planned.

The sessions are delivered by Good Skills Training Isle of Wight, which has already delivered first aid workshops to more than 5,000 Island schoolchildren.

The sessions consist of CPR and defibrillator training. Statistically, people are much more likely to survive a heart attack if CPR is administered within five minutes.

Barry Grant and Larry Martin run Good Skills Training IW.

Barry said: "These sessions are not just about giving the training to use the equipment, they are also giving the confidence to use what looks like a difficult piece of equipment in a highly stressful and emotional situation.

"If even one life is saved after attending the workshop, then that is a job well done."

The first session takes place on Saturday, March 30, at YMCA, Winchester House, Shanklin, at 10am, 11am and 12pm.

The next sessions are on April 16 at the Eight Bells in Carisbrooke, at 10am, 11am, 12pm and1pm. The pub is also fundraising to get a defibrillator outside the pub.

There will be further sessions on April 26 at the IW Chamber of Commerce in Newport, at 9.30am, 10.30am and 11.30am.
