A MAN who used cannabis medicinally has been banned from driving after being caught over the limit.

Martin Edwards, 50, of Denton Gardens, appeared before Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday and admitted a charge of drug driving and possession of cannabis.

Police stopped his car after seeing it drive through a red light and a roadside test was positive for cannabis, prosecutor Vivian Ducie told the court.

A blood test later proved he was over the limit for cannabis.

He was also caught with a small amount of cannabis in his possession.

For Edwards, Barry Arnett said his client smoked cannabis for pain relief.

Edwards suffered a significant injury some years ago and found that he was allergic to the prescribed medication, Mr Arnett said.

Magistrates banned Edwards from driving for 12 months and fined him £138. Edwards will also have to pay a £30 surcharge and £85 court costs.
