BIG NAMES from the worlds of music and comedy have been announced for Wight Proms 2019.

The stellar line-up includes soprano Lesley Garrett for the proms day, West End star Ruthie Henshall for the musicals day, and comedians Alan Davies and Shappi Khorsandi for the comedy evening.

The festival returns to the Isle of Wight from August 29 to September 1, 2019 in the grounds of Northwood House, Cowes.

Island support acts will include Company B-UK, Theatretrain, The Rockafellas and several winners of the Isle of Wight Music, Dance and Drama Festival.

Following the popular format of last year’s festival, the Wight Proms are once again showcasing A Wight Laugh on the Friday night, Wight at the Musicals on the Saturday night, and Last Wight of the Proms on the Sunday, starring Lesley Garrett alongside the Wight Proms Concert Orchestra.

Festival founder Mike Christie, who found fame as part of vocal harmony quartet G4 on The X Factor, said: "Last year's headliners received such high plaudits we knew we had set the bar very high.

"We've been working hard to enhance the offering from last year and are delighted to announce these internationally renowned acts, together with another great line-up of local talent."

Two new events have been added this year.

Wight at the Movies, an outdoor cinema evening, will be held on the Thursday, featuring The Greatest Showman and Dirty Dancing.

On the Saturday afternoon there will be an event for children, Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev.

Mike said: "We had a fantastic few days last year, with a packed schedule, however it was always the aim to offer the community as much variety as possible, and to build and develop each year.

"We will also have a bigger and better choice of food stalls this year from across the Island."
