From R. F. Cheek, Ryde:
My wife and myself recently flew from Gatwick to Alicante with BA for £86.92 return. The same day we took the Fishbourne to Portsmouth ferry at a cost of £42.40 return.
Our Island will never be prosperous while we are held to ransom by the ferry companies. Would any business choose to relocate to the Island, or holiday maker choose to visit whilst the current situation exists?
The only way forward for the IW is for the ferry companies to be taken into public ownership, so they can be run as a service to their customers (the fare-paying public), not as a “cash cow” for investors.
