ISLAND bands Kevin 17 and Three Minute Heroes will support their music idols at Jack Up The Weekend.

The new spin-off event takes place at Medina Leisure Centre over the Easter weekend, with Bruce Foxton's From The Jam on Good Friday and Big Country on Easter Saturday.

The concert nights come from the organisers of Jack Up The Summer, which takes place in August.

The headliners are two internationally celebrated acts, and the local musicians are delighted to be supporting them.

Supporting From The Jam on Friday, April 19, will be Three Minute Heroes.

Bass player Russell Wendes said: "We're really looking forward to the gig, playing on the same bill as someone whose influence has helped shape what you do is pretty exciting.

"In terms of our set, we'll be taking it back to the roots, playing some reggae and ska from where it all started."

Three Minute Heroes have a strong following among the scooter scene and promise an energetic live set.

On Saturday, April 20, dedicated 80s band Kevin 17 will be supporting Big Country.

The band are busy preparing their own unique renditions of hit songs from The Cult, The Cure, Blondie, Eurythmics, The Skids and more.

Band member Mark Hermit said: "Kevin 17 are so proud to be supporting Big Country, a band who we've seen many times before and are an amazing live act.

"We're also really pleased to be in a band with Russ our bass player. He's so talented, not only is he playing with Kevin 17, but also with Three Minute Heroes the previous night."

Also at Jack Up The Weekend will be a real ale bar from Island Ales, and a wide selection of vinyl records and artist memorabilia available to purchase.

Tickets are available from jackuptheweekend.co.uk or from 1Leisure sites, as well as the Tourist Information Centre in Newport.
