THESE new recruits are the latest addition to the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

The firefighters have passed out, following an intense and rigorous ten-day course.

They will now go to their local stations to help serve and protect their communities, having learnt new skills such as putting up ladders, keep safe in a dangerous environment, use the equipment on a fire engine and how to put out a fire.

They are Harry Boxall (Ventnor and East Cowes), Rich Carter (Sandown), Liam Daniels (East Cowes), Mike Dyer (East Cowes), Marley Newey (Freshwater), Josh Parsons (Shanklin) and Rebecca Thompson (Newport). Josh Parsons was awarded Top Recruit.

Isle of Wight group manager Damian Watts said: "The training team, led by station manager Tim Spencer-Peet, have done a superb job and I am immensely proud of them and the recruits.

"In their new roles, the recruits will help support fire incidents on the Island and deliver key safety messages such as having a smoke alarm to their local community.

"We look forward to future courses and introducing more firefighters to the Island."
