POLICE have cordoned off a residential area in Ryde this morning (Friday).

It has been reported that a person was found laying on the ground and has since been rushed to hospital.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and police were called to the scene on Castle Street, between George Street and Nelson Street, at around 6am.

A section of pavement has been cordoned off.

A police spokesperson has told the County Press that officers were called to reports of a man with a head injury lying on the pavement.

Police said: "We were called at 6.07am this morning, Friday, March 15, to a report of a man with a head injury lying on the pavement at the junction of Castle Street and George Street in Ryde.

"Following initial enquiries, we do not believe that the man was assaulted.

"He has been taken to hospital for treatment."
