COMMODORES representing Isle of Wight and mainland sailing and yacht clubs attended a reception to launch the golden anniversary celebrations of Yarmouth Sailing Club.

Sailing club commodore, Liz Mead, toasted the club's success at the event which also included many local people from Yarmouth businesses and institutions.

Liz said: "The reception was just the beginning of our celebrations. The weekend of June 28-30 will be our actual golden anniversary weekend.

"We are planning a glittering anniversary ball on the Friday. Then on Saturday there will be an all-day event with a tombola, water sports for the children and sailing races for the adults, strawberry tea, followed by a barbecue and music.

"Finally, Sunday sees a Parade of Craft with a prize for the best dressed craft with a golden theme and this will be followed by a buffet lunch.

"So there's lots for us to look forward to."
