A NEW foodbank has been opened for residents of The Bay.

On Friday, March 1, the Isle of Wight Foodbank opened The Bay bank at Winchester House. It will be the first foodbank on the Island to have an evening session.

Isle of Wight Foodbank manager, Hannah King, said: "We realise that to meet demand, we need to have an evening session for those who are working during the day.

"I am delighted to be working closely in partnership with Winchester House, providing food and support for those in crisis in the local community."

Hannah also thanked all the volunteers and trustees alongside Broadlea Primary School and friends for joining them at the grand opening.

Deputy head at Broadlea, Lizzie Chambers, said: "We really value the foodbank as we recognise there are many families within our community who need emergency food.

"We gather donations each Harvest for the bank and will continue to support this valuable service. We are delighted to hear a local foodbank in the Sandown and Lake area is now available."

The Bay foodbank is open Tuesday 9.30am to 11.15am, Thursday 5.30pm to 7.30pm and Friday 9.30am to 11.15am.
