AN ISLE of Wight potter will exhibit her finest work next month — in Japan.

Molly Attrill's work was spotted by a representative of Gallery St Ives, Tokyo, in her friend's house in Yorkshire early last year.

The director of the gallery later flew from Japan to visit Molly's studio.

Specialising in traditional British studio pottery, the gallery has cultural links with the Leach Studio Pottery movement, which celebrate's its centenary next year.

Bernard Leach trained in Japan before setting up his pottery in St Ives and he is widely attributed with creating the concept of the individual artist-potter in this country.

Molly started her career as a potter working as an apprentice to Michael Leach, Bernard's son.

She is now based at Binnel Studios, St Lawrence and will exhibit a little closer to home at the Quay Arts Centre in July.
