STRONG winds this morning (Tuesday) are causing travel disruption on cross Solent services ahead of Storm Gareth.

Hovertravel has announced that its services are cancelled this morning.

Red Funnel has also warned that it is highly probable its Red Jet service will be affected by the adverse weather and strong tides today.

A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued by the Met Office for tonight.

The yellow warning covering the Isle of Wight takes effect from 9pm this evening and will be in place until 3pm tomorrow (Wednesday) and may lead to further travel disruption.

Wightlink has cancelled its 9.30am sailing from Fishbourne to Portsmouth because of the absence of an essential member of crew.

The Met Office's yellow weather warning for wind has been brought forward.

Previously set to take effect from 9pm this evening, the weather warning has been brought forward to 12 noon.

An emergency closure notice has been issued for Calthorpe Road in Ryde due to a fallen tree.

UPDATE 15:30

Flooding has closed the main road from Carisbrooke to Shorwell, Bowcome Road. Calthorpe Road is now open.

Hovertravel's hovercraft services are now running to timetable.

The hovercraft has been suspended for this evening due to the stormy conditions.
