The Isle of Wight has been issued with a weather warning for a spell of severe gale force southwesterly winds tomorrow (Tuesday 12).

Local forecasters at the Isle of Wight Met Service have put out a yellow warning for severe gusts developing during the early hours of Tuesday, with up to 65mph likely on exposed coasts and over the hills, and gusts of up to 50mph in less exposed areas.

The warning states: "Between 10am and 1pm it seems likely that a short spell of even stronger winds may develop for a time with gusts of up to 70mph accompanied by a spell of very heavy rain.

"Driving conditions during this spell will be very poor with lots of surface water and spray as well as the risk of falling debris due to the strong winds."

The national Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind on Wednesday (13) for large parts of the UK including the Isle of Wight.
