STRONG winds across the Island have halted ferry services and blocked roads today (Sunday).

Red Funnel's Red Jet service and its vehicle ferry service have been suspended until further notice, and Wightlink's Yarmouth to Lymington route has been suspended.

Hovertravel has also suspended its hovercraft service this morning.

Fallen trees are blocking Downend Road, past Robin Hill on the way to Arreton, and Newport Road, just outside Calbourne Mill.

Isle of Wight County Press:

Southern Vectis' Route 8 will not serve Furrlongs bottom, Downside, Furrlongs top, Long Lane, Buckbury Lane Robin Hill and all stops to Arreton Barns due to the fallen tree.

The 9.25am Route 12 will be diverting from Freshwater Bay to Brook and will not serve Southdown Rd, Compton, Brook Chine and Badger Lane. Service will resume from Brook Triangle.

UPDATE 09.40am: Route 8 is unavle to serve Avenue Slipway, Fort Street, Isle of Wight Zoo Meadow Way, Sandown Holiday Centre and Yaverland Church due to a fallen tree.

UPDATE 10am: The Red Jet service will be suspended until at least 5:45pm from Southampton and 6:10pm from Cowes. There are ongoing problems on Southern Vectis' Route 2 journey due to fallen trees.

UPDATE 10.20am: Fallen trees in Calbourne, Havenstreet and Knighton are blocking roads this morning.

The Junior Cross-Country Championship, due to be held at Seaclose Park, has been cancelled.

UPDATE 10.40am: Southern Vectis' Route 12 is now back on its normal route.

Traffic is backed up in Havenstreet after a tree has blocked the main road.

UPDATE 11.45am: Wightlink's Yarmouth route, Hovertravel service and all Red Funnel services are still suspended. 

UPDATE 12.15pm: Red Funnel has confirmed its vehicle ferry will not run until at least 3pm.

UPDATE 1.10pm: Island Line trains are not serving Ryde Pier Head due to windy conditions. The service will start to and from Ryde Esplanade.

UPDATE 1.30pm: Wightlink's Yarmouth to Lymington service is now running to timetable.

UPDATE 2.25pm: Red Funnel's vehicle ferry will return to timetable at 3pm from Southampton and East Cowes.

UPDATE: A tree has fallen down off Place Road, Cowes.

The Red Jet service has resumed and is running to timetable, starting with the 4.45pm sailing from Southampton and the 5.15pm sailing from Cowes. 

UPDATE 6pm:

Hovertravel's hovercraft service is running again. The first sailing from Southsea is at 6pm.
