MADCAP children's TV presenter Timmy Mallett enjoyed an evening in the Spyglass Inn in Ventnor at the weekend.

Staff member Jo Wane said: "Timmy was an absolute delight. He was taken away with the charm of the pub and was very interested in the history of the Spyglass and all its seafaring memorabilia."

Timmy and his wife Linda also enjoyed the homemade food, choosing dishes created by the pub's chef Henry Gibbs.

Jo said: "Timmy had Henry's homemade seafood tagliatelle while his wife had Henry's homemade crab soup, both from our daily specials board, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

"Timmy had a pint of the Yates' local Islander which he enjoyed. We have just won the MyIsleofWight award for the best place to buy a pint of local ale.

"Both Timmy and Linda stayed for the whole evening to listen to our pianist Wobbly Bob who plays most Sunday evenings.

"It was a pleasure to meet Timmy as I used to watch him every Saturday morning presenting Wacaday back in the 80s. They don't make children's TV like they used to!"

The Spyglass celebrates its 31st birthday on March 25, and will celebrate on Sunday 24 with live music throughout the day.
