A PUBLIC painting has been stolen from Sandown High Street.

The work of art, a painting of a fish, was displayed alongside a number of paintings by local artists on a community art wall on Sandown High Street.

The painting was produced by local artist Jeanne Jones.

Jane Midmore, one of the other artists featured on the wall, said: “Lots of people have admired Jeanne’s painting since it went up on the community art wall on Sandown High Street.

"Alan Jones, her husband and chair of the Sandown Community Association, cleverly named it ‘A Fish Called Wander’, after it was stolen in the dead of night.

"It’s very sad that it was stolen from the art wall. Hopefully it will be found or returned.”

A police spokesperson told the County Press: "At some time between 4pm on March 2 and 9am on March 5, a painting was stolen from Sandown High Street.

"The painting had been put up on an empty building, alongside others as a community project.
