The Isle of Wight Council / Island Roads seem to have a policy to remove stiles and replace with gates. That’s not fine.
There’s no need to take the stiles out, they’ve been a ‘country furnishing’ for a hundred-plus years.
No, just be happy to put your proposed gates alongside and leave the stiles alone.
You have no right to give yourselves a permit to ‘remove some’.
