PLANS to build a house in a conservation area have been given conditional approval by Isle of Wight Council planning officers.

The plans to develop land at Church Hill, Godshill, raised objections from residents and the parish council which said the area was ‘at risk of losing its special character’.

An application for five houses was turned down in 2017.

Last year, an application to build two houses at Church Hill was approved by officers.

Now the applicant is seeking permission for a third house on the site.

Godshill resident Joanne Rooney said: “Apart from the wildlife destruction, flood issues and it being a complete eyesore to such a beautiful village, why do we need such a development?

“I am totally against this additional application for a further ugly eye sore of a house.”

Godshill Parish Council also said the development would create a hazardous highway which would be dangerous at the beginning and the end of the school day.

Clerk Bev Cornish said it would also affect local wildlife: “The impact on species such as badgers and dormice needs to be addressed.”

The plans will be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting of the planning committee. It starts at 4pm at County hall.
