CARISBROOKE angler Lee Frampton won’t fit what he caught in his deep fat fryer.

His 31lb gargantuan catch, a cod, was the only fish hooked on a seven-hour sea trip — but it made up for the others that got away.

The 41-year-old welder, who caught it a few miles off Bembridge, said: ‘It was a hell of a size and worth the wait.

The Codfather, Lee Frampton, with his massive catch on board the boat, Something Fishy.

"I was aboard my mate Carl Gaylor's boat, Something Fishy.

"It's the biggest cod I've caught — and one of the biggest to be caught in Britain this winter.

"I knew it was a big fish when I hooked it, but didn't quite realise just how big until we got it on the boat.”

Isle of Wight County Press:

Lee Frampton will be eating fish suppers for some time.

The fish was 4lb off the Island record, but some way off the British record, a 58lb 6oz cod, caught at Whitby in 1992.

Lee, who used squid for bait to catch the giant cod, which was more than 4ft in length, will be eating fish suppers for quite some time.

He added: "It’s not my biggest fish — but it is my biggest cod. My previous best was 24lb.

"The fish was filleted and put in my freezer — and I gave some to friends and family to enjoy."
