Two pumps from Ryde were called out to a chimney fire on Surrey Street.
FIREFIGHTERS were called to an explosion and a fire inside a hopper at the Recycling Centre on Forest Road this evening (Thursday).
A spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two crews, a command unit, an officer and a ladder platform from Newport and one crew from Cowes attended the scene after receiving the call at 6.56pm.
Staff at the plant tackled the fire themselves before crews got on the scene and did a full inspection.
The blaze had been extinguished by 7.50pm.
