THE NEWEST — and wildest — soft play attraction on the Isle of Wight has officially opened this week.

Monkey Madness, a jungle-themed soft play area at Amazon World, includes a climbing wall, a ball pit, a 'shark tank' and an array of tunnels, ladders and slippery slides.

Yesterday (Wednesday), Wightlink's chief executive, Keith Greenfield, officially opened the fun.

Owner of the site, Derek Curtis, said he and his wife Sandra were sunning on a beach in Antigua in 2014 when the phone rang and he was told the soft play equipment was available.

He quickly decided to spend the more than half a million pound price tag to develop, build and create Monkey Madness.

He said: "By 2016 the concrete base had been dug out and laid and the playground, dino dig, museum and car park had been moved.

"It took another two years of hard work and a quick trip to hospital after I fell from a ladder, but Monkey Madness is now up and running."
