A NEW business networking group using the power of LinkedIn social media is launching in Newport.

It is aiming to put the 'social' back into 'social media' — to meet online contacts face-to-face and to meet the person behind the profile, turning profiles and posts into real-world business relationships.

#LinkedInLocal started in Australia back in 2017. Since then, networking groups have formed in over 500 cities across 80 countries, including the UK and now the Isle of Wight.

Giving those that use this powerful social media platform the opportunity to meet existing LinkedIn connections in person, together with making new contacts to expand their personal network and collaborate with like-minded people.

These free to attend #LinkedInLocal networking sessions are open to everyone, organised by PC Consultants and supported by the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, who wanted to bring this networking concept to businesses across the Island, but also use the sessions to enable everyone to connect with businesses across the south coast and those in business visiting the Island.

Steven Holbrook, chief executive of the Chamber of Commerce said: “We’re very excited to be partners in the launch of LinkedInLocal for the Isle of Wight.

"High quality business networking is at the heart of the Isle of Wight Chamber.

"Making connections and developing contacts is key to the growth of any business, of any size. People buy from people, and this event combines face to face networking with the LinkedIn brand.

"It’s great to welcome #LinkedInLocal to the Island.”

Unlike some networking events, #LinkedInLocal is not aimed at big businesses, but freelancers, entrepreneurs and smaller companies, something that reflects the nature and profile of those in business across the Island.

Also, during the sessions there will not be any speakers, presentations or pitches aimed at selling, as the event aims to provide the opportunity for all those present to simply meet people and make more connections.

Chris Court, of Chris Court Associates, who works closely with PC Consultants as a digital specialist, said: “I’m really pleased to have been able to work with PC Consultants to secure this for the Island.

"It’s a great networking opportunity that is open to everyone, regardless of any membership or association, so there will be lots of new faces and people to meet.

"With the support of the Chamber of Commerce we have put together this inaugural event.

"Building on the success of this first event, we aim to have a meeting each quarter.

"The event is firmly aimed at having a relaxed, informal structure and a great way to connect with contacts — old and new — to build genuine business relationships."

The inaugural #LinkedInLocal event will take place on Wednesday, February 27, at The Slug and Lettuce in Newport High Street starting at 5:30pm, and whilst the official event will close at 8pm, those gathered are encouraged to continue meeting throughout the evening.
