FRESHWATER Independent Lifeboat will hold a fundraiser — and recruitment drive — this weekend.

Crew members and volunteers will be outside the Co-Op in Afton Road on Saturday (February 23) between 10.30am and 4.30pm.

The D-Class lifeboat and a rescue jet ski will be on display.

Principle fundraiser Rod Adams said: "Working with the Co-op for our fundraising and educational days is a very important part of our year.

"It allows us to speak to our growing community, and perhaps enlist some new volunteers. Of course it means we can have some fun and raise some much-needed funds as well.

"There will be dress-up for the children throughout the day with a chance to get a picture of them piloting our lifeboat.

"We will be raising money for rebuilding our lifeboat slip into Freshwater Bay. We have already secured a generous offer from a leading marine surveyor.

"The next step will be to raise funds for the slip itself which will not only shave minutes off launch times, but also reduce the risk to our crew members during severe weather."
