A cheque for £1,000 has been presented to Yarmouth Primary School by the organisers of the now defunct Yarmouth Old Gaffers’ Festival.

The money will be used to decorate the school’s Reading Room which will be renamed The Yarmouth Old Gaffers’ Room.

Headteacher Lizzie Grainger said: “It has raised the profile for the children reading and they love going in there where it is nice and snug.

“But it badly needs decorating and new shelving and some pipe work needs to be boxed in. We’ll also buy some more bean bags for the pupils to sit on.”

The cheque was presented to the school by Yarmouth Old Gaffers’ chair Debbie Cotton and committee member Gail Knight.

The money is the last of the £24,000 which was distributed to a variety of charities and organisations to mark the end of the event, which was first launched in 1997.
