AN East Cowes councillor is on a mission to return a sculpture to its birthplace on the Island.

Cllr Karl Love, together with Isle of Wight creative David Hill, want to preserve the artwork, originally situated at Barton Manor, and place it in East Cowes.

The sculpture belonged to music producer Robert Stigwood, famous for producing the film Grease and managing The Bee Gees.

When Mr Stigwood moved from Barton Manor to Ascot, he ordered the artwork to be moved with him, but it never made it.

It ended up at a local gardening centre in Ascot and, after Mr Stigwood’s death in 2016, Cllr Love has petitioned for it to return to East Cowes.

Cllr Love, who visited the structure recently, said: “On its return it will need renovation. We need to get it back first to save it and that’s all in hand.”
