FRESHWATER and Totland Parish Councils teamed up to thank volunteer organisations and individuals who have contributed to the local community at an awards ceremony at the Memorial Hall.

A total of 27 groups and individuals were nominated at last Friday's appreciation ceremony and each received a personalised certificate.

Helen Gibbs, clerk to Totland Parish Council, said: "It was a wonderful night and was a chance for both parish councils to say thank you to so many people who put in their time to help out wonderful community.

"There were groups and individuals who deserved to be recognised and the amount of nominations shows how lucky we are to have them here with us locally.

"The last time we had an awards like this was around seven years ago, but we hope to hold it every two years now as it was such a success."

The Elderberries performed a selection of their songs to entertain the packed audience and Master of Ceremonies was Adrian Bolton of the Waterfront Bar and Restaurant, Totland.
