ANOTHER Isle of Wight school has placed in the top three at the regional Global Rock heats this week.

Medina College performed their way to second place when they competed against six other secondary schools with their routine, Chernobyl’s Curse, at Portsmouth Guildhall last night (Wednesday).

The school also brought home a hefty collection of excellence awards, including choreography, performance skill and student leadership.

Their performance told the story of the orphaned children and the evacuation of Chernobyl after a nuclear explosion in the town.

Ryde Academy — a showcasing premier team — performed at the event to display their entry for this year, Standing Where Her Shadow Fell, based around a factory-bound slave community.

The school head straight to the finals later this year after they placed fourth at the southern premier final in 2018 with their piece based on the film Avatar.

It follows Monday night's second place for Christ the King College with their Leonardo DaVinci routine.

Last week, the future of scheduled Rock Challenge events in Southampton appeared to be in doubt, but the company has said it is committed to ensuring all children get their chance to shine and is aiming to go ahead with all events as planned.
