ISLE of Wight-born rugby talent Max Fletcher got on the scoresheet for Gloucester Rugby U18s to help them earn a spot in the Premiership Academy League final after finishing top in the last game.

Max, 18, of Shanklin, who has progressed impressively in the sport since he joined Hartpury College over a year ago, went into the game with Gloucester tied with Bath at the top of the Southern Section.

Isle of Wight County Press:

Bath had won their match earlier, but left the door open for Gloucester to go top after failing to pick up a try bonus against London Irish.

A great team performance by the Cherry and Whites saw them win 41-21 at Exeter to finish top, to set up a re-match with Leicester Tigers at Saracens’ Allianz Park in the final.

In the second half, Fletcher helped give Gloucester momentum and territory in attack with some amazing runs.

From a scrum, a solid shift from the forwards gave the backs some quick, clean ball to work with and the backline shipped the ball out to Max, wearing 23, who scored the bonus point try Gloucester desperately needed to top the group.
