A West Wight primary school is celebrating a double dose of good news after the completion of a building contract which cost more than £1million and a 'good' Ofsted report.

Shalfleet Primary School has two new modular classrooms with outside play areas while other building and decorating work have taken place inside the main school building.

The work has been done thanks to government funding and includes extra space for its Little Explorers pre-school classes who have their own separate building with all weather play areas outside.

Lizzie Grainger, who is head of the Federation of Shalfleet and Yarmouth Schools, said: "This is fantastic for us and will make a huge difference to teaching and learning at Shalfleet.

"It's clean, fresh, bright and colourful and the children are thoroughly enjoying it. We are now in the process of organising a new library and meeting rooms."

The majority of classes have been extended and have been completely redecorated with new furniture.

There is also an Emotional, Literary and Support (Elsa) room as well as new toilets, including disabled toilets.

Lizzie added: "Both Shalfleet and Yarmouth Schools have been given 'good' Ofsted recently and these works have complemented the strength of our Federation."
