ISLANDERS have been warned by Trading Standards to be wary of a scam e-mail regarding council tax.
The e-mail, which informs the receiver they have overpaid in council tax and are due a refund, looks genuine and has the HMRC logo and a link to an official-looking website with a government logo.
It directs you to a link where you will be asked to complete a form which requests bank and card details.
A spokesperson from Trading Standards said: "This is a scam. "Your Council Tax payment is made to the Isle of Wight Council and not a government website, and the council will never contact you in this way.
"If you receive this e-mail, delete it straight away, do not click on any links and under no circumstances should you give out your bank account or card details in this way."
