Bobby Bedingham, of Staplers Road, was sentenced to one year in prison suspended for two years.

In another court case, an armed man, who tried to provoke police into shooting him dead, was imprisoned.

David Luke Soppitt, 46, of Winford, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence and was sentenced to 32 months in prison.

This evening, a fire broke out in a flat on Union Street, with two fire crews called out to the busy street to tackle the blaze.

This caused traffic disruption in and out of Ryde.

A Freshwater man was targeted twice within a matter of hours when a smoke grenade was posted through his letterbox and a paint-like substance was thrown over his front door.

Police were called just after 9pm last night (Monday) when the grenade was posted to the bungalow in Sunset Close.
