FIREFIGHTERS have been called out to a fire in Freshwater this evening (Monday).

The fire and rescue service were called out by police to a fire in a road off the High Street.

At least two crews have been called out from Newport Fire Station.

A fire and rescue service spokesperson said crews were called to a fire in a domestic property.

The fire was out by the time firefighters arrived, but the building was heavily smoke-logged.

Crews used ventilation equipment to clear the smoke and carried out checks in the adjoining property's loft space.

All occupants of the property have been accounted for.

Two crews from Newport were called to the scene, alongside a crew from Freshwater.

The alarm was raised at 9.06pm and the two crews from Newport are now standing down.
