A SCAM cold call which claims a PPI request has been successful is making the rounds on the Isle of Wight.

The call, using the number 01616604379, informs the receiver of the call that their PPI claim has gone through and that they will be sending a cheque.

A reference number is given and a house number, postcode and date of birth are asked for.

One resident who received the call said: "At this point, I asked where the PPI was being claimed from and the phone just went dead."

There have also been reports of a BT scam, where an automated voice suggests the phone line has been corrupted and will be disconnected, has returned.

Islanders should be aware and never give out personal details over the phone if uncertain of who is on the other end of the line.
