ISLANDERS are being reminded to spring into action and refresh their garden waste subscription.

The council's garden waste collection service, which runs from April 1 to March 31, does not automatically renew.

Therefore, Islanders that wish to continue having their garden waste collected for the next year will need to subscribe agian.

Cllr Michael Murwill, member for waste management, said: "Let us continue making your gardening life easier by re-subscribing for your garden waste collection this year.

"Picked up from your doorstep, it takes the hassle out of putting heavy wet garden waste in your boot and making trips to the waste centre to dispose of it."

The optional fortnightly scheme on offer allows householders to subscribe for a 240-litre wheeled bin of three hessian sacks to be picked up for £60 per year.

Principal manager for waste and recycling, Natasha Dix, said they were encouraging more residents to save time on their trips to the tip by signing up again following a successful first year.

She said: "If you haven’t subscribed before but aren’t sure if you will generate enough garden waste to warrant the subscription, you can always sign up first and then share the cost and load with your neighbour. Alternatively, composting at home is always a low carbon option that is great for your veg patch."

The scheme, which runs in partnership with Amey, accepts waste such as leaves, grass cuttings and sticks but no logs, rubble or soil.
