NEWPORT'S BrightHouse store is set to close, it was announced today (Tuesday).

The rent-to-own firm is shutting 30 stores across the country and the Isle of Wight's branch is on the list to be axed. About 350 jobs will be lost nationwide.

According to the BBC, the tough high street conditions combined with a clampdown on rent-to-own stores — where customers make monthly payments on a product until they have paid in full — have caused the closures.

A spokesman from Brighthouse said to the BBC: "We are working to redeploy as many people as possible into alternative roles but redundancies will be inevitable."
