From Frankie Goodall, Newport:

Re: Alan Marriott’s column (CP, Weekender 18/01/19), I was lucky enough to have inspirational teachers who involved me in sports and outdoor activities, which I enjoyed during an academic career, and still do in my eighties, despite being severely disabled.

I like to think some of this rubbed off on the young people I taught, who make me proud today,

Yes, young people should have fun

But not on the run,

Having caused strife,

Ruined someone’s life,

‘just being a kid’

We have a wonderful Island, it costs nothing to enjoy the outdoors and socialise with friends.
