THE Isle of Wight teenager, Cameron Shirley, who has been in intensive care since he was assaulted in December, has taken a turn for the worse as his airways collapsed and he was placed in an induced coma.

Cameron Shirley, 17, was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital after he was assaulted in the early hours of Thursday, December 13.

He underwent emergency surgery to cut away a section of his skull, relieving the pressure on his bleeding, oxygen-starved brain and has been in intensive care since.

His mum Alysa Shirley, 40, who runs the Victoria Lodge Hotel, Shanklin, has teamed up with other mums and launched a campaign, Cam's Army, to raise awareness about the devastating impact fighting can have.

Last night (Friday), she posted on the Cam's Army Facebook page: "Today my world crashed for a second time. Cam's airways have collapsed and he has been put into a medically induced coma."

Cameron was assaulted in the Fishbourne Inn car park. He and a friend were collecting another friend from the ferry.

He was accompanied by another teenager known to Cameron. An argument between the two escalated into a fight, and Cameron sustained several blows to the head.

An 18-year-old Cowes man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He was subsequently released without charge, but remains under investigation.
