JACK Up the Summer festival has announced '90s boy band East 17 will be taking to the stage.

'Stay Another Day' stars East 17 will be performing on Sunday August 11, as the event broadens its appeal to incorporate a day of music from the 1990s.

They were one of the biggest boy-bands of the 1990s, released five studio albums and sold more than 18 million records worldwide.

Event organisers said: “'90s fans have been crying out for a day like this, there’s never been a 90s festival on the Isle of Wight before and we’ve secured some great names.

"First act off of the starting blocks is East 17. With a raft of anthems like ‘House of Love’, ‘It’s Alright’, ‘Steam’, ‘Let It Rain’, ‘Deep’ and, of course, ‘Stay Another Day’, this promises to be the singalong moment of the weekend.

"The Jack Up team saw them perform live in London last year and they took the crowd by storm.”

Founded in 1992, the group's name came from the postcode for Walthamstow.

East 17 notched up eighteen top 20 singles and four top 10 albums, and were one of the most famous acts in the world during the early to mid 1990s.

Their 1994 single 'Stay Another Day' remained at the top for five weeks and was also that year's Christmas Number 1, and is still a classic Christmas anthem.

Nowadays, the lead vocal has been taken up by Robbie Craig of Artful Dodger fame and alongside two original members the trio have seen more success as a live act around the UK and Europe than they've done in over a decade.

Jack Up the Summer takes place at its new location, North Fairlee Farm just outside of Newport.

Early bird weekend and day tickets go on sale on Monday, January 28 and will be available online and over the counter at Island outlets including the County Press office in Newport.
