POP GOES THE CULTURE a free cosplay and popular culture event for all the family managed to 'sell out' its ticket allocation on Saturday.

Families and children of all ages piled into Cowes Enterprise College for an afternoon of comedy, cosplay events and the search for the Island's greatest Mario Kart player.

A giant TV screen aided the crowd as they watched competitors duke it out for the coveted Mario Kart title. There were also delicious cakes on sale and comic book memorabilia.

Fans of Netflix's 'Birdbox' film played an inspired game of Super Mario, featuring blindfolded competitors.

The Island's very own real life superhero – the Wight Knight – made an appearance too. The knight announced he's soon to be appearing on ITV's This Morning programme and fist bumped his way through a crowd of adorning fans.

Host and co-organiser Alex Watts said: "For a beta-testing of a show, for it to have been as widely embraced and enjoyed by all ages is a fantastic feeling. The feeling of joy we get from providing something which balances a family day out with something teenagers, adults and kids can also enjoy individually is special to us.

"This was only a trial run of our show - so we're definitely off to the right start and look forward to building a real spectacle for the Isle of Wight in the future."

The event was organised by PC Consultants, Big Screen Media, Nosy Design and the AlexWattsBlog.
