THE AMBULANCE involved in a collision with a BMW this morning was responding to a 999 call.

There was only crew on board at the time of the crash, on the Argyll Street, West Street, Green Street junction in Ryde.

The vehicle was on its way to an emergency and another crew had to be dispatched.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust said: "We can confirm that one of the trust’s ambulances was involved in a collision this morning with another car in Ryde.

"The ambulance was responding to a call at the time of the collision. No injuries were sustained from the driver of the other vehicle or the ambulance staff on board.

"Operational commanders from the Ambulance Service have attended the scene to offer support to the paramedics and member of public involved.

"Another crew were dispatched to respond to the original call."
