A RETIRED painter and decorator from Brighstone died from a head injury after a fall at his home, an inquest was told.

Donald Macinnes, 85, of Wilberforce Road, fell in his bathroom and banged his head in July 2018.

Around a month later, he was admitted to St Mary's Hospital, Newport, suffering from disorientation and favouring his left side.

The hearing was told Mr Macinnes had also suffered from inoperable throat cancer and had been given a limited time to live.

A decision was made on August 22, by St Mary's, to transfer him to Southampton General Hospital where he died on August 30.

A post mortem revealed he had a bleed on his brain.

Coroner, Caroline Sumeray, concluded Mr Macinnes had died as the result of an accident.
