A NEWPORT man appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates this morning charged with two counts of causing injury by dangerous driving.

Joshua Mark Johnson, 26, of Gunville Road, faced a further two charges of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specific controlled drug above the specified limit (cocaine and cannabis).

No pleas were entered and the case was adjourned to the Isle of Wight Crown Court on February 11.

Mr Johnson was granted unconditional bail.

Magistrates heard the charges related to a two-vehicle crash in which a woman suffered life-changing injuries, including ten broken ribs and liver and spleen damage.

Her husband suffered a fractured pelvis in the Calbourne collision last May.
